SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
PSSC will visit three palm gardens, which will include the two oldest and diverse located in Ventura on Saturday, July 16, 2005. Lunch will be on your own, but these gardens are located within short distance of fast food establishments or bring your lunch.10:30 AM: The tour will begin with the youngest of the gardens, that of William Hapeman. The dense planting of palms in the front is about 5 years old. Recent landscaping in the rear garden consists of palms, cycads, and succulents.
Directions: William Hapeman's Garden, 311 Brent Street, Ventura, CA 93003. From the 101 Ventura Freeway North, exit on Main Street, stay in center lane, enter Main Street, go west on Main. At the "Y," guide left to enter Thompson Blvd., left on Francis (Subway Takeout Food at corner), left on Preble (STOP sign), left on Brent.
11:15 AM: The oldest and most diverse garden in Ventura
County belongs to Pauleen Sullivan. Pauleen's collection contains many rare specimens obtained over
thirty years ago and which are now very mature specimens. The tall Ceroxylon is like a beacon guiding us
to her palm garden.

on E. Thompson, immediately get into left lane as Thompson becomes Telegraph, go past the Fashion Place
Shopping Complex, left on Mills, right on Mound.
12:15 - 1:15 pm: Lunch on your own. There are several restaurants along Telegraph
Avenue near Ventura
College. From Pauleen's place, it will take 15 minutes to get to Robert Jenkin's Garden.
1:15 - 1:45 pm: Robert Jenkin's garden presents a panoramic view of palms of different heights, and shades. Robert has acquired a broad range of palms over many years.

right on Glen Ellen, left on Telegraph, past Ventura College, right on Victoria, past the 126 Freeway,
left on Telephone, right on Ramelli to the end, right on Wolverine, and right on Kudu Place.
1:45 pm: The PSSC meeting will start with a discussion on palms for the micro-climates of Ventura County. Raffle and auction will follow the discussion.
