Mark your calendar now to attend our next meeting on Saturday, November 18, 2006 in Fallbrook, CA. The meeting starts with a tour of the garden of PSSC members Wanda Mallen and Gary Vincent. This garden was started about six years ago and features many species of palms. Of particular interest is that many of the species being grown are cold hardy species and have seen multiple frosts. In addition, there are a large variety of cacti, succulents, Australian species, Ficus and other tropical plants. A greenhouse provides shelter for the more tropical palms in the winter. This is a two-acre garden that has many flat paths and is easy to walk through. We have not visited this garden before and it is well worth seeing.

We will leave the garden and travel a short distance to Fallbrook Community Center where we will have a potluck, auction/raffle and two guest speakers. The speakers include Leland Lai, President of the PSSC. He will be showing slides of the just finished IPS Biennial Tour of Dominican Republic. For those of you who could not attend this trip, this is your time to get a close up look at the palms you missed. Following, Riverside member Justen Dobbs will give a presentation, “Return to Mexico’”, and be concentrating on palms from the more arid parts of Mexico. His presentation will be particularly interesting for those of you who live in hotter areas.

12:00 Noon:    Depart for Fallbrook Community Center. Bring plant donations to this facility and remember a dish for the potluck.

From 5 Freeway: Exit at 76, proceed east approximately 15 miles to Gird Road. Left on Gird to the first street on the left, Knottwood Way (about .8 mile), left to Cedar Vale Way, left to 3856. There is plenty of street parking on Cedar Vale and also the gate on Gird will be open, allowing people to park on Gird and entry directly to the garden.

The Community Center: Address is 341 Heald Lane in Fallbrook. The directions from the garden to the Center are: Back to Gird, left on Reche Road, right on Stagecoach, left on Fallbrook Ave. Continue to the corner of Heald Lane. There is parking next to the center and across the street at the tennis courts.
