The Huntington
LIBRARY AND BOTANICAL GARDENS
(Click photos to enlarge)
Established in 1903, Huntington Botanical Gardens now spans nearly 150 acres with a breathtaking palm collection containing approximately 80 genera and 200 species. Many of the palms were planted in the early 1900's, yielding beautiful mature specimens now.
Do not assume that the only palms are in the "Palm Garden". The
frost and sun sensitive palms are mainly located in the "Jungle
Garden", which is adjacent and to the west of the Palm Garden. It
holds a large collection of Chamaedoreas and other shade loving
beauties like this Lepidorrhachis mooreana pictured on the left.
To the east of the Palm Garden and the Jungle garden is the "Desert
garden". It also has many palms. Scenes from this garden are
pictured on the right.
Those of you who are interested in cycads, can get your fill here.
Many are in jungle garden, but more are concentrated in the
"Huntington Circle" and around the "Huntington Gallery".
